Internal Communications Job Market Analysis: H1 2025

Internal communications shows consistent strength amid broader market headwinds.

The internal communications job market delivered strong results in the first half of 2025, with organizations posting 1,725 positions across the US, UK, and Canada. This six-month total represents a 32% increase over the 1,309 jobs in H2 2024, pushing the monthly average from 218 to 288 positions. The growth occurred during a period when broader employment markets faced significant headwinds, positioning internal communications as a standout sector for professional opportunities.

Internal communications job postings hold steady as broader market declines

Multiple data sources point to a challenging job market in 2025. Revelio Labs' June 2025 report shows job postings have continued declining throughout 2025, with a 5.1% drop in May alone and widespread cuts across all industries. Similarly, Indeed's recent analysis reveals the labor market shifting into "stagnation," with only 52% of sectors maintaining job postings above pre-pandemic levels, down from nearly 100% in 2022.

Meanwhile, internal communications job postings in the US, UK and Canada maintained consistent strength through the first half of 2025, with monthly totals ranging from 211 positions in January to 374 in March.

This suggests internal communications represents one of the minority sectors showing resilience during what Indeed describes as a period when "both employers and employees appear hesitant—holding onto existing roles and avoiding risk amid ongoing uncertainties."

Excluding January (which can be slower for job postings) and March's peak, the volume of internal comms job postings has been remarkably consistent this year.

Remote roles hold steady despite RTO push

Remote internal communications job postings maintained exceptional stability through H1 2025, even as broader market forces created significant volatility elsewhere. Strictly Internal recorded 216 remote IC positions across the six-month period, with remote roles consistently representing 12-13% of all postings—a rate nearly double the market-wide average.

Indeed reports that remote job postings have stabilized at around 7-8% across all sectors, after declining from their 2022 peaks. This suggests internal communications professionals enjoy better access to remote opportunities than workers in most other fields, even during a period when major corporations implemented aggressive return-to-office mandates.

Some IC jobs cluster in major cities; many span hundreds of locations

Nevertheless, there is plenty of opportunity outside major cities. For January 1 - June 30, 2025, Strictly Internal tracked internal comms jobs across 419 unique locations outside of the top 10 metro areas.

All internal comms is change comms?

Transformation and change communications-focused roles showed more modest growth compared to the broader internal communications market expansion.

Organizations posted 138 dedicated transformation positions in H1 2025, representing a 9.5% increase from the 126 positions recorded in H2 2024. However, the growth lagged significantly behind the overall expansion in total internal communications positions, suggesting organizations may be integrating change communications capabilities into broader IC roles rather than creating standalone transformation positions.

Over 400 additional jobs – about 25% – listed change management or transformation communications as a requirement, giving some truth to the statement “all internal comms is change comms.”

Job Levels Show Broad-Based Growth

Internal communications experienced growth across all job levels in the first half of 2025. Manager-level roles dominated the landscape, accounting for 51% of all postings, maintaining a consistent proportional share compared to the second half of 2024, while adding 189 new positions. Specialist roles saw the strongest proportional growth, expanding from 25% to 26% of the market and adding 121 positions, suggesting increased demand for specialized internal communications expertise.

VP-level positions doubled from 20 to 40 postings, representing the most significant proportional increase. Entry-level coordinator roles also expanded significantly, growing 47% to represent 8.5% of all positions. Director-level postings increased by 22 positions despite a slight decline in market share. At the same time, every level showed absolute growth, indicating a healthy expansion rather than zero-sum competition between organizational tiers.

Overall, the first half of 2025 presents numerous positive signs of opportunity for internal communications professionals. Yet, for many job seekers, this data doesn’t tell the whole story. According to ICIMS’ June 2025 Workforce Report, job applications are up 21% year on year, while the total number of available jobs is flat compared to a year earlier. Many more are struggling with an increasingly difficult job application process governed by ATS and AI technology. Hopefully, the consistency we see in internal comms job openings translates to job seekers finding good jobs – even if it takes longer than anyone would like.
