Tips & Tricks from Tops & Flops
Looking to shake up your internal comms tactics? Here are few ideas you can steal from FGS Global's recent âTops & Flopsâ report and webinar, drawing insights from 25 internal comms leaders at large companies:
Refresh those town halls. FGSâ interviews confirmed town halls are tops for internal comms. To keep them fresh, consider rotating the location of your live sessions to distribute the experience across sites. For global orgs, try alternating the primary language to balance inclusivity and practicality in some locations. Also, take a fresh look at your approach to Q&A, including the tradeoffs and opportunities between live Q&A, anonymous questions, themed Q&A, standalone AMAs, and how you manage unanswered questions.
Reinvigorate leadership/team connections: Try a "Lunch Roulette" program, where a randomly selected group of employees enjoy an informal lunch with leaders. Or, pilot a briefing event featuring 2 or 3 leaders followed by a social gathering where employees can engage those leaders in conversation. Consider establishing a recurring 30 min session with groups of new joiners and your CEO/leaders to discuss the companyâs strategy, values and culture.
New insights
âNote to all executives: Employees arenât interested in exposition or pontification when org changesâi.e., their livelihoodsâare in flux,â says Mister Editorial in a recent post where he breaks down a 2,342-word internal memo sent by CNNâs CEO.
Who comments more on employee surveysâŠsatisfied or dissatisfied employees? People & Data Scientist Ludek Stehlik set out to find the data-backed answer to this questionâŠcheck it out here.
Last week I asked whether folks would be interested in a âsurvey of surveysâ summarizing useful info from the many internal comms reports out there. 60% of you said no, you would not find this useful. đ I have an unhealthy obsession with those reportsâŠso I may do it anyway.đ But I will prioritize accordingly. Thank you for voting!
