The roles your search might miss

Technology Optimization Communication Manager takes a moment to place.

At RELX, the audience is technology colleagues. The remit includes organizational change, manager communication, SharePoint and the intranet, and adoption of new ways of working.

Yet the title contains none of the words internal, employee, or colleague.

That got us curious, so we checked the rest of this week's list. In 14 of the 34 roles we curated, the title contains none of those words.

At Pet Valu, the title is Communications Operations & Content Design Specialist. The role reviews store-facing messages, supports the development of materials for internal audiences, and helps administer the platforms carrying Head Office-to-field communication.

Regine Nelson has made a similar case for looking beyond IC titles. She encouraged practitioners to consider adjacent work in change management, employee experience, employer brand, people programs, and operations. As she put it, “our skill set is broader and more valuable than most job titles give us credit for.”

In a 2026 Sociological Science study, Marie Labussière and Thijs Bol used millions of UK postings to compare occupational classifications with the skills employers described. They found “substantial discrepancies” between the two.

One place to start is a second saved search built around an assignment you would gladly take on again. If it was a technology rollout, the search might include digital adoption or change communication. If it was a channel rebuild, perhaps communications operations or digital workplace.

The usual IC terms still belong in the search. So does the work you want to do again.
