56 Jobs + The EA relationship most IC teams skip

What caught our eye in jobs this week

Crunchyroll asks for "familiarity with Japanese culture" as a strong plus in an IC job description. They make anime — and the preference is for someone who already loves it.

Fortescue built its business digging iron ore out of the ground. This role advises the CTO of Electromobility, inside their decarbonisation division, from a village near Oxford.

Signals

Intranets are the experience layer now. Forrester evaluated 13 intranet platforms in its Q2 2026 Wave, naming Simpplr and Workvivo as leaders. The report frames intranet as shifting from "content repositories" to "the employee experience layer that reduces fragmentation." If you're in platform conversations, expect that language.

The managers IC relies on are checking out. Manager engagement dropped to 22%, down nine points since 2022. Gallup's State of the Global Workplace 2026 puts the cost at $10 trillion. The people who carry your communications to employees aren't carrying much else right now.

Insights

Under pressure, leaders amplify

Under pressure, leaders communicate more intensely as themselves. MIT Sloan's March analysis identifies four thinking styles that become self-protective in high-stakes meetings: preparation-focused leaders start signaling "your input isn't welcome," control-oriented ones signal "the decision is already made." Worth knowing if you coach leaders into difficult rooms.

Data and EAs build IC credibility

Mandy Mooney, VP of IC at Prologis, points to two underused credibility tools: data that traces IC work to outcomes, and relationships with executive assistants — the people who hold the schedule and know their executive well. Her Ragan interview: "If you can prove through data that you are driving results, that's going to come out." You've probably already made the case with data. The EA part is less common.
