What caught our eye in jobs this week

Macmillan Cancer Support is hiring a Head of IC & Engagement in London at £70K–78K — with a 34.5-hour week and one day in the office written into the posting. That kind of transparency about working conditions is still rare at Head level.

Rogers in Calgary is hiring a comms coordinator specifically for AI governance — not to write about AI, but to help employees understand the framework around it. A year ago this role didn't exist.

20 of the 48 published a salary. The range runs from £35K at KIDS to $289K at Checkr in San Francisco, where the JD asks for AI experience alongside the usual strategic comms brief.

Insights

• IC’s two roles. Jenni Field wrote something in February that's been sitting with us. She called it an identity crisis, where IC is expected to execute on the tactical work while also solving trust, culture, and change.
  
  Her point is that the ambiguity is costing us. When the function isn't defined, it gets either underused or buried in mismatched asks. The article is forward looking and a practical guide for navigating IC in the coming months.

• Children's Hospital Colorado shared how they cascade a message to 18,000 employees, and the process is straightforward and easy to borrow.
  
  Executives get briefed first on the nuances and likely reactions. Managers preview the message and flag concerns before it goes wider. Employees see built-in callouts directing questions back to their manager. The team provides talking points, FAQs, and tone guidance for every release.

• Greg Howe wrote a practical three-step framework for connecting IC work to business outcomes — a Mini Brief to define success before launch, a mid-campaign action report, and a narrative dashboard for leadership. It's built on the Dewhurst and FitzPatrick do-feel-know model and sized for small teams.
  
  Gallagher's 2026 report found 70% of IC teams track opens and clicks, 12% measure business impact. Bill Quirke noticed the same pattern in 1996 — measuring reach without outcomes is like checking the engine but not where the car goes. Howe's framework is a practical solution for closing the gap.

• IoIC president Suzanne Peck reflected on the "Year of Constant Change" and came back with three things for the to-do list:
  
  ➊ Get sharper at change comms, because it's bleeding into business-as-usual and nobody can tell where one stops and the other starts.
  ➋ Protect your stakeholder relationships across the business.
  ➌ Get serious about proving value with data, the kind of evidence that makes your CFO pause before making budget changes.

Simpplr launched "Comms AI" — a dedicated AI workspace built for internal communicators. Drafts content, tracks engagement, suggests timing. First platform to position AI as an IC teammate rather than a generic writing assistant.

Firstup goes agentic — new AI capabilities connect directly to Workday, ServiceNow, and ADP. Employees can complete tasks like PTO requests through natural language conversation inside the platform.

Slack AI rolled out channel summaries and AI-drafted messages — daily recaps, auto-translations, workflow automation via natural language. If your org runs on Slack, this changes what "caught up" means.

Staffbase ships AI-generated video subtitles and AI podcasts — Q1 2026 release adds automatic subtitle generation and podcast creation from written content. Useful for accessibility and reaching employees who don't read newsletters.

LumApps × Beekeeper: Agent Hub goes GA in June — the $1B merged entity is rolling out an AI agent marketplace. Custom agents, pre-built library, natural language routing. One to watch if your org has both desk and deskless workers.

Microsoft Viva Engage getting deeper Teams integration — native embedding of communities, campaigns, and storylines inside Teams. Plus Copilot in Viva Glint now summarizes employee survey results automatically.
