The work

The director sets the internal communications strategy and owns the cadence of leadership updates, town halls and organisational announcements. They manage channels including the intranet, email, newsletters and collaboration platforms, and write and oversee content from executive messages to video scripts.

A significant part of the role is communications for change, including M&A, platform migrations and operating-model shifts. The director assesses readiness, sequences messages and coaches executives and managers, equipping them with talking points, toolkits and FAQs. They also handle sensitive announcements, advise leaders across the agency and work across business units to align internal and external messaging, with employees hearing it first.

The director sets goals and mentors team members and partners. They monitor and report on communication performance to sharpen the strategy and demonstrate its impact on engagement and alignment. MERGE expects the director to use AI to scale and sharpen the work, and to demonstrate how they partner with it to produce communications that feel authored, while retaining human judgement and voice.
