The work

Writing accounts for approximately 75% of the role and events 25%, though the split may reach 50/50 at the height of event season. The lead translates operational and technical topics into features, executive messages and presentations, newsletters, intranet content and webcasts. They own key employee publications, contributing original stories and editing submissions.

The role develops and executes communications plans tied to business goals, advises internal clients on messages and channels, and looks for emerging stories and milestones. It tracks engagement and channel effectiveness and uses AI to inform strategy. Relationships across functions help the lead gather information firsthand.

On the events side, the lead manages logistics, hospitality and attendee experience for the Houston Texans and Houston Rodeo executive suites and the Houston office holiday party. The role also gives strong support to the Integrated Supply Chain team’s Supplier of the Year conference, with eventual leadership of that event.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
  • At least five years of corporate communications experience and a published portfolio showing AP Style mastery, versatility across formats and clear writing about complex operational or technical subjects. Recent work samples are required; writing is the primary selection filter.
  • Ability to plan and execute independently, manage multiple priorities under deadline and advise internal clients.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, emotional intelligence and executive presence, with ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Business acumen and motivation to learn the specialty chemicals industry.
  • Fluency with generative AI, SharePoint or intranet platforms, email marketing systems and enterprise social media.
  • Experience in, or openness to, a global environment across time zones.
