Principal Adviser, Internal Communications – Rio Tinto Aluminium & Lithium
At Rio Tinto Aluminium & Lithium (RTAL), this role helps employees understand business priorities and connect them to the organisation’s strategy. It combines strategic communications advice with hands-on planning and delivery across RTAL.
The work
Reporting to the Manager Communications, the adviser works within the RTAL Communications team, helps shape global communications plans and coordinates campaigns across RTAL. The adviser develops and delivers internal communications plans supporting RTAL priorities, business initiatives and operational excellence, with a focus on safety. The work includes turning business priorities into accessible communications, advising leaders and key functions, and coordinating messages and timing across internal channels.
Content ranges from leader messages and articles to presentations, talking points and employee updates. The adviser also prepares leaders for employee engagements and town halls, maintains editorial calendars and channel plans, and works with communications colleagues, HR and other functions to respond to their needs.
The adviser uses employee feedback, channel insights and communication measures to improve content and approaches. The role also contributes to sensitive, time-critical and change communications, escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
